Finance and Accounting Double Major?

Is a Finance and Accounting double major a good idea? I'm in the Smeal College of Business, which doesn't allow double majoring within the college, the only exception is through the Integrated MAcc program in which you get a BS in Finance, a BS in Accounting, and a Masters in Accounting in 5 years. This is the only possible way to double major in both Finance and Accounting in Smeal. It would no doubt make me a very solid job candidate, but I fear that double majoring in both Finance and Accounting would be really difficult and would prevent me from participating in extra-curriculars. I did really well my freshman year and ended up with a 4.0, but I don't want my GPA to suffer greatly if I were to double major. Would it be advisable to just pursue one of these majors, and if so, which major has the better job prospects in the present and going into the future? I'm going to be taking an Accounting class this upcoming fall as a sophomore, and I'll be taking a Finance class in the spring semester, during which I'll have to declare my major. Thanks for any input!

Could you do a finance minor? If you have to choose one of the two I’d go with accounting and take as many finance electives as you can. If you would glance over job postings you’d see that about 75% of finance-specific jobs would consider accounting grads, but not the other way around. Just my opinion.

Unfortunately there are no Finance or Accounting minors in Smeal, but thank you for your input! I’ll definitely keep an open mind.

I have been in around accounting for over 30 years and I agree with everything NYCguy said.
