Hi, I am going to be a freshman this year in university and I am looking to transfer to a more prestigious university next year. What kind of courses should I be taking the first year?

Should they be ones that are the hardest and most challenging or does it not really matter? (Honestly I'm not a 4.00 student and will probably get somewhere around 3.0 - 3.3 if I take the most difficult courses)

I have a strong passion in Finance and have already interned at 2 banking companies - should I take variety of courses in different areas or it looks better if I focus on taking finance related courses (business, accounting, and so forth)

Follow your current school’s recommended curriculum for your major. As a freshman, you will most likely be taking general core or prerequisite classes anyway. As long as it is accredited school and you get a C or better in those classes, all your credits should transfer. Don’t focus on the difficulty of your classes. Just try to do as well as you can in the basic classes so your GPA is as high as possible. If you have one particular school that you are targeting, you could also look at their required courses, and if there is something different than what your current school mandates, try to fit those classes in, if possible. So, for example, if your targeted school requires a foreign language, but your current school does not, and you have room for an elective, take a foreign language. That sort of thing. Just don’t deviate too much from your current school’s curriculum. Otherwise, you may find yourself playing catch up should you decide not to transfer (or don’t get in, or can’t afford it).
