I am an econ major and am looking for ways to take some Marshall courses. Currently, non-majors can take up-to 12 units and I want to take some more BUAD and FBE courses(5) to complement my econ degree. One of the ways I explored is to do a minor in business. However, these regular Marshall minors have some core courses that is more than I can handle if I wanted to graduate on time.

However, it seems that this Finance minor under the Dept. of Finance and Biz. Econ only lists 200 and 215x as a requirement. So, it got me excited and confused.

USC Marshall Undergraduate Minor Required Courses

Has anyone had any experience with the Finance minor? Does it have any core requirements besides from these two courses?

thanks in advance!

not sure if it’s worth it. try to transfer to marshall
if you cant i dont think a finance minor will help you much in recruiting. id just focus on getting good grades in the remaining courses. econ majors can def get finance jobs. just show your interest by networking, reading wsj, participating in virtual stock trading competitions, trojan investing society, etc

Thanks kmz. I don’t expect the finance minor to carry much weight in recruiting either. I just think that, if I wanted to get into finance out of school, I should be prepared with some basic knowledge in finance in practical sense. Especially, when you are an econ major dealing mostly with theoretical concepts, it shouldn’t hurt to familiarize yourself with some practical approach. It should be good to have basic finance courses on the transcript as well when it comes to interviewing and etc… That said, I was wondering if the finance minor could be a way to take that 5 finance classes I am interested in without overwhelming myself with random core requirements…
