I’m a senior in high school and was admitted to CSOM. I selected finance as my major, but I’m not so sure if accounting could be a better option, so I have some things that I want to list out:
-My math skills in high school are strong and I have received an A for each trimester since freshman year. I also received a B in Microeconomics and will soon take the AP Exam
-I received a 29 on the math section of the ACT
-I’m interested to find out the rankings of both finance and accounting in Carlson
-I’m also interested in working to get an MBA soon after college and work at a corporate environment (i.e. 3M, General Mills, etc.)
I also have some questions to ask. Do you know which major has more career opportunities? Also, which major has a better ranking as well as a higher graduation rating in the college?
Take a look at the requirements for each major and you will see that you may have some common prerequisites to buy to a bit of time for your decision. Here are the links and hopefully they will give you some insight.
On the right side of each of these links, click on the “sample plan” to view how your semesters may look and where you can insert your liberal ed requirements.
@Agaildon24, have you considered double majoring in finance and accounting? Both subjects have technical and intellectual aspects to them that will serve as an advantage on the job market. And then some courses in economics will give you the theory behind all the practicality.
Shooting for a 3M or a General Mills upon graduation is a great plan. Large corporations are made up of the same departments you find in any good business school: finance, marketing, accounting, systems, product development, strategy, etc. Hopefully through your work experience you will get some on-the-job research opportunties (as well as on-the-job training) to help you figure out what you’d like to focus on for graduate school.
