Financial Aid and Admissions?

Hello everyone,

When I was applying to colleges on the common app I always clicked on the “will not apply for financial aid” part of the application. But I feel the need to sign up for FAFSA. Will this hurt my admissions chances? Is there a difference between institutional aid and FAFSA? Will FAFSA give me aid from the federal gov and not from colleges?

You can sign up for FAFSA. No, it won’t hurt your admission chances. Yes, there is a difference between institutional aid and FAFSA, you can still get federal loans but not likely if you didn’t think you needed them in the first place.

You can apply for a student loan through FAFSA regardless of how you answered the applying for aid question.
