Hi! I am trying to appeal my financial aid decision (for Cal Poly SLO) but I have no idea where to start. Do I just send their financial aid office an email outlining my reasons why I need more aid, or what?
Thanks!
What are trying to appeal? You also posted in the SLO thread, so what is included in your financial package? Cal States give little merit aid so most of the financial aid available is need-based.
Did you file the FASFA? Are you a CA resident?
If you are a CA resident and based on family income, you could be eligible for Federal aid such as the Pell Grant and Stafford loans (subsidized/unsubsidized), work study and Cal Grants. If you family income is too high, then you would not be eligible for most of these types of aid except for the Stafford loans (unsubsidized).
Are you a Calif resident?
Did you qualify for a Cal Grant?
Why did you choose Cal Poly over UCB?
What is your EFC?
As per your other copied thread:
It’s a public school funded by California State taxes.
They don’t give full rides.
Where are they going to get the money?
Funding, to most UC’s generally comes from Cal Grants/Blue and Gold. Federal funding doesn’t make any kind of dent.
If you don’t qualify for a CalGrant, you won’t qualify for any other major funding.
Everyone generally needs more aid.
It is a publicly-funded state college.
If you can’t afford to go, you need to go to your safeties: affordable schools that you don’t mind attending.
