As most of you know the FAFSA uses 2016 income to calculate EFC. In our case our 2016 was ~$20K higher than our current income due to one time occurrences. I appealed our aid and just recently received an email that our appeal was approved and to check in the morning for the new award. When I checked, the new award was the same as the old award. Confused, I went to the NPC on their website and plugged in both old income and new income to see what difference it would make. According to their site it was about $3k in additional aid that could be offered. When I inquired about why there was no additional aid I received a response that basically explains how EFC is calculated and did not address the point I made earlier. All of my correspondence has been by email so I’m calling the office when they open to discuss. But does this make sense?
Does this college guarantee to meet full need based on the FAFSA? The only one I know that guarantees this is University of Chicago.
It’s very possible that the school doesn’t meet full need…and what you got…is what you got.
But do call and ask.
??
Your posts are confusing.
What was your 2016 income
What was your 2017 income.
And will you have 2 in college in the fall?
what is your EFC for each child?
