Financial aid at Rhodes College

I am a junior interested in going to Rhodes College. One thing about Rhodes though is the high tuition cost. I've researched and seen the different types of scholarships but can't find the requirements for these scholarships anywhere. Does anyone have information about requirements for scholarships at Rhodes College?
FYI I have a 29 ACT on my first try and a 4.0 gpa unweighted.

Get your ACT up. Rhodes attracts a great number of high scoring applicants, searching for scholarships. How much money to you need to attend? Have you tried the SAT? IME, some students do better on one test than the other. My Rhodes kid was an ACT kid. If your low score is science, I might can help you with that one. PM me.

The site won’t allow me to pm unless I have 15 posts. I scored the 29 last year as a sophomore with no study time. I don’t have a specific amount of money, but I’m in a family that can’t afford to help much at all. I plan to go to medical school and I would like to go into that with as little debt as possible. In the area of arkansas where I live very few people take the sat, but I just took a PSAT and if the scores for that come back good, I will look into taking it. My science was a score of 31. English was my lowest at 26.

Well, be sure to look at Hendrix, Millsaps, Sewanee, too. I bet your ACT goes up substantially.

Hendix is a really good option. Their financial aid was terrific. Rhodes had decent aid, but we got better offers at other schools - although your experience may differ. It’s fine to apply to Rhodes, since it is a great school, but make sure you have other options.

Hi, curm! :)

Raiders13, Rhodes does not have minimums for admission or scholarship because they evaluate the application in full. They will be looking at classes taken, rigor of the curriculum, GPA, test scores, activities and leadership, essay, supplement and recommendations. The median 50% for the ACT for this incoming class was a 27-31. A 29 puts you right in the middle of that. Also, the average need-based financial award was $33,489. I encourage you to apply and see how scholarship shakes out.

Just looke back on this thread and saw your post rhodeslynx. Thanks for the information

My daughter had a 31 ACT, 4.0, unweighted, 4.6 weighted GPA. she loved Rhodes when she visited, but ended up at Vanderbilt (which she also loves). She was given about 33,000 in her financial aid package, but that INCLUDED loans (the $5,000 gov. Student loans). She was awarded 17,000 for tuition, 8,000 for music ( nice that Rhodes allows such high music scholarships for a non-major!), and another $2500 for a service scholarship. Still, we did not count the loans, because we want our kids to graduate without debt. we chose Vanderbilt because the meet 100% of your financial need. if you DO get in there’d, I encourage you to look at departmental loans, because they have MANY. Mine found out after the fact she could have applied for an art scholarship as well. So if it’s your dream school, you CAN make it work. You do need to get your ACT score up, but you have plenty of time to do that!

When I called Rhodes, they seem to indicate that they highly reward higher ACT scores…32 and up.

I see that Moonpie’s D was given $17k for tuition for an ACT 31. That’s about a half tuition scholarship. If you want a larger scholarship than that, try to get a higher ACT (or SAT).

My D had a 34 ACT, and she did get a large scholarship from Rhodes … but they do package loans to meet need.

I forgot to add we’re visiting Rhodes with D2 on Saturday! I’ll see if there is any additional info I can glean? I think they are pretty generous overall. It’s one of my middles top 3 choices.
