Financial Aid award decreased after accepted

Not really, but we are going to take lots of loans and make it work. Single parent. Really panicking about it all. Was shocked at how little financial aid we received.

No, it was directly from his grants. He lost 2k in grant money. There was a new financial aid award letter in the acct, which had an added Pell grant and a decrease in grant money. Loss of about $1500 in aid. So, technically we didn’t lose 2k, because of the measly Pell grant, a few hundred a semester.

Is it possible that the $2,000 was allocated to work study, which he would need to earn during the semester?

No, no work study. I will find out tomorrow!

I am really interested in hearing what they tell you. I honestly can’t think of any explanation that makes sense, other than a mistake.

if you’re taking a lot of parents loan to “make it work” AND they cut your child’s grant award, you can straight up tell them it was barely affordable in the first place with the 2K grant that was removed and now it isn’t. See if you can hard bargain. Most colleges really want students to enroll.

Private colleges can pretty much do anything they want without rhyme or reason. But that said, this is in very poor form for someone that qualifies for a Pell grant.

We don’t have enough facts to support a claim that this is poor form. It could be a clerical error (and the school will apologize and correct it), it could be an error in the financial aid form which was just caught on a routine audit, we don’t know. Even Pell recipients make mistakes on FAFSA…
