Financial Aid Confusion

Okay, here's the breakdown. Recently, I was awarded an extremely prestigious $25,000/year scholarship at my school. I saw my ePal today at UCLA and I'm getting $20,500 in aid from them:
Pell Grant - $5,500
Cal Grant - ~$10,000
Scholarship - ~$5,000

What happens to all of that extra money? Do I still get it?? Or does it just go back to UCLA..without use??? Or can I still use it.. I'm so confused somebody help me please :S

But yes, I'm SO happy I don't have to pay a cent for college. :)

WOW - congratulations!

You will get the Pell grant regardless; it is an entitlement. As for the other money, I can’t say for sure. The best way to find out for sure what will happen is to call UCLA & ask.

Recently, I was awarded an extremely prestigious $25,000/year scholarship at my school.

Is this a scholarship from your high school? Or from someone else?

From a company in my town, they award 2 $100k scholarships every year to the top 2 graduating seniors.

It looks like UCLA didn’t take the scholarship into account (which makes sense since the OP isn’t necessarily going to that school). Would that offset the OP’s need (Cal Grant and Pell)?

Wow! What a generous company! Congrats!

Send your award letter to UCLA asap and ask them how it will be applied. You will most likely at minimum still get the Pell + the $25,000 scholarship = $30,000. That will cover your tuition, fees, room, board, and they will probably give you a check for the extra $3,000 or so to use for books, travel and expenses. After they tell you how it is handled, come back and let us know - I don’t know what happens to the Cal Grant when the need is covered, for example.

CONGRATULATIONS!

Thanks everybody sooo much for the info!! And thanks for the congratulations guys, the scholarship is HUGE!!! :)

wow congratz  that’s huge.
