I was wondering how much I could get for financial aid grants if my E.F.C. is about 5,000-6,000. I want to make sure Vanderbilt's financial aid is near something I could afford before I apply next year. Note: I just want an estimate like something in the ball park like an example would be 20k-25k and that would be fine. Thank you beforehand :).

It is DEFINITELY affordable. My EFC was around 20k based on the FAFSA, but Vandy’s finaid (no loans) leaves me only around 13k to pay. I’m sure they take the CSS into heavy consideration.

From experience and asking a few others awhile ago I’d say you’ll be anywhere between 0-10k. No guarantees.

Thank you for all the info guys this helped me make sure Vandy’s financial aid is for me lol.

Gen: My EFC was around 5.5-6k and I had to pay ~10,000 (after grants). They didn’t give me any loans or work study. Which means I’d have to take out that 10,000 in loans each year. Hope that helps, by the way, I’m class of 2013

My EFC was just shy of 4k, and I’ve left to pay after grants and work study = merit money about 2k.

I guess in the worst case scenario I can expect to pay 15,000 could I possibly get a private scholarship to cover that or would the private scholarship just go into my grant money?

Most likely into your grant money.

If your expected contribution is above your FAFSA EFC, then your CSS must have shown some atypical assets or savings (aka, you have extra $$ you could use for college).

If you get private scholarships, it first covers the student contribution (work study or term employment), then the grants. It will not take away from scholarships given by the institution, however.
