(Junior here) So recently I’ve has some mental health issues. my GPA dropped, but it’s still not awful. (3.2, so I could apply many places. I’m hoping starting therapy will keep my grades up second semester) but during my super stressed time of worrying about getting into U of M (always was my dream because of Team Starkid and the fact I live in Michigan) I realized that what I really want is a conservatory education. I’ve been looking at CCPA (My voice teacher attended there and I know someone who goes there now) and Boston Conservatory, as well as others. I’m still applying to other schools, of course, but those are at the top of my list. However, I’m the youngest of five kids, two of which will be in college next year. When they filed out FAFSA my dad knew we wouldn’t get a lot of money. According to them he should be able to afford to send 3 kids to college at the same time. He wants to retire soon (He’s 56 but has a physically demanding job and comes home tired. He’s been working there since he was 18, even during college. I doesn’t pay all that great considering he has three kids living at home) but is waiting until I’m at least halfway though college. He told me flat out that he’s not letting me take out student loans, which i appreciate. He’s good with money and I understand why he doesn’t want me having student debts to worry about. However, with my wanting a conservatory education I’m worried. (Especially since my brother wants to go to law school) He insists that I don’t worry but I know he’s stressed out which gets me stressed out. OK, so to the point:
Are there any scholarships specifically for conservatories or musical theatre students. Or what great schools offer a lot of financial aide. I’m also looking for competitions to do. I did the Hal Leonard one this year and I’m planning on doing classical singers. I do all those little scholarships from places like Unigo so things like that would work too. Anything helps. Thank you.
Focus on getting your ACT score up, my S has a similar gpa, he took an ACT course to get his score up and he indeed got more scholarship money. Millikin has been the school that so far has offered him the best financial aid package with a nice talent scholarship. Look at their website, it has the exact dollar amount. BAL
