I am an accepted student to SLC. The financial aid (around $36k) that has been awarded is quite unfavorable for me to join the school. I wrote to the FA office and was told that I have been awarded the maximum amount.

I strongly feel that the award letter is quite vague and inappropriate to the data mentioned in the CSS profile.

Is it the situation with all international applicants? SLC has always been my top choice but this ungenerous FA has made it impossible to join. The award letter does not mention about work-study, student loans and many other details that are quite necessary for an international applicant.

hey, I am also an international student who is in this situation under ED1 pool
I was applying your amount of FA but I only got 16600
As a result, my mom decided to sell the other apartment, however it seems impossible now because my parents is taking divorce since my stepfather said no to my mom’s decision
I do understand your struggle and I want to let you know, you are not the only whose destiny maybe changed because of the unsatisfied FA

All the difficulties will be solved if we want to get there.
Hope to see you in NY this summer if you would.

Thanks for the post. It was really encouraging and disappointing at the same time. I do realize we are so much engrossed in our own world that we do not understand that others have bigger problem than us.

Did you appeal to the FA office? I guess SLC’s FA policy is very rigid. Above all, why do they ask for CSS profile and all when their decision is independent of all data?

I appealed but they said “No” to me.
I accept their decision because I believe there must be someone else who need the money more.
Anyway, good luck to both of us!

I reckon both of you are already into college(even if it’s not Sarah Lawrence). I am in the same boat as you were. I got 38000. I really want to go to SLC but there is no way I can pay 22000 dollars per year. I have appealed; just have to wait what they will say. I am not very positive though because there endowment is just $59 million while other LA colleges have way more. Fingers crossed. BTW, if by any chance, you drop by CC reply. THank you!

Ah, yes, same with me as well. I’m getting #37,880 in total, which includes gift aid and the Dean’s Scholarship, but it’d definitely not enough at all.
I called today and asked if I could appeal but after seeing your responses, I’m not sure that Sarah Lawrence is in my future after all.
But I guess that’s what we get for desiring to attend the most expensive college in the United States?
