Financial Aid for International Students

Hi! I’m an international student (from Mexico) and Georgetown is the collage I want to attend, it’s my number one school. But my father has made it very clear to me that I would only attend a school like that if I get enough financial aid (that is a 7,000 tuiton school. That’s the tuiton of the best private university here in Mexico). I know the Georgetown Financial Aid Website says that grants to international students are very limited, and I have read in a previous post that they only give grants to 7 international students. But the post was from 2009, so I would like to know how is it now. Do they consider also merit in the financial aid application for internationals? And how many international students do they have aid now? And from which backgrounds?

I really want to attend Georgetown and study finance, and it would mean the world to me if you can provide me help in this. Thank you for reading this!

The estimated cost of attendance is listed as ~$74,320 per year for 2018-2019.

The website indicates a very limited amount of need-based aid for international students.
Your stats would have to be exceptional.
You need to find some safeties.

Georgetown in general does not provide any merit financial aid. You can run their cost calculator, but it may not be accurate since you’re an international student. Depending on your income bracket, there are scholarships meant for lower-income families like the GSP scholarships, but those are limited.

In theory GU does not provide merit aid. It does however provide limited need based aid to a limited number of international students. The International students that recieve this aid will need to supply documents supporting their economic situation, usually your parents tax returns (get ready to translate). Once finanancial aid has been deemed necessary then the college will award a package to the “most worthy” applicants, hence merit does play a part. Don’t worry too much about paying for the college the hardest thing is to get in. You will need to have almost perfect GPA, extraC’s that stand out and a steller application letter as to why GU is for you and why you are GU. Good luck!
