My son is entering Junior year and we're starting our financial research. We're a gay couple, not married, file separate tax returns, etc. Only one of us can take our kids (2) on tax returns each year. That's my partner, who is 64 and a half time school teacher. I'm self-employed as a writing teacher/coach. We own a house together, but share no other assets.

What does this mean for financial aid applications?

Does the FAFSA and Profile handle this differently? Is my son seen as child of a single mom....obviously this would benefit us.

Any other gay/lesbian parents out there who've gone through the financial aid process....I'd love to benefit from your advice/experience.
