Financial Aid for Non-eligible noncitizen

Hey guys,

I’m looking for some advice: I’m a current student at California Community College and have been accepted to transfer to UC Berkeley next Fall, so now I’m thinking on how I can afford it.

My situation is somewhat complicated: I’ve applied for political asylum in 2014, and my case is pending (my next hearing is in 2018). I am considered a California resident for tuition purposes, so I was able to pay for community college myself and wasn’t searching for any aid; however, tuition at UC Berkeley, even for California residents, is pricey. I did file FAFSA saying that I was an eligible noncitizen (since I was granted residency, I thought I was), but it turns out that I’m non-eligible noncitizen, so I cannot get any federal financial aid. I didn’t send GPA verification form required for Cal Grants, so it seems to me that I cannot get any state fin aid either. Do you have any suggestions? Am I not aware of some aid that I’m eligible for? I would appreciate any pieces of advice.

The only aid you’d be eligible for is private (assuming you are correct about not qualifying for a Cal grant). Check with the organizations that are helping DACA students find aid, but it is very limited.

Yeah, thanks, that’s I’ve been thinking about.

You are thinking how to fund this NOW?

Contact Cal financial aid…and see what they say.

I know… should’ve started like a year ago
