Non-eligible Noncitizen & FAFSA/other aid

Fast forward a month after I thought I completely filed my FAFSA, I got an email from a college that I applied to; no FAFSA on record. Found out that it's impossible for me to submit a FAFSA as a non-eligible resident.
I thought that even without legal residency/status, it's advisable to file a FAFSA.. but it seems that I cannot submit one unless I label myself as an eligible noncitizen or citizen?

I am completely aware that as a noneligible noncitizen, I would not get ANY federal aid (and yeah, I do know what the "F" in FAFSA stands for), but I was under the impression that I could still file my FAFSA and have that financial information sent to the colleges I applied to. I was hoping to see if any of the private universities I applied to could offer any need-based aid (low-med income, leaning much closer to low).

What's my course of action?
Thank you!

Most private colleges have other forms they request for need based financial aid consideration for international students. If that is what you are, then you need to check each website for THOSE required submissions.

Some states/schools have programs for non-citizen children who have graduated from a state high school, but not a whole lot of non-federal aid.

Are the colleges that you applied offer financial aid to ineligible non-citizen students? They should have specific instructions for those students; sometime the colleges would ask for a paper FAFSA for themselves. The Federal government does not process any FAFSA from ineligible non-citizen students.
