so: i'm attending a community college in california this summer. i didn't attend school for fall, winter, or spring sessions. my expected efc is 0 and i haven't received my financial aid yet because i started the process really late. for budgeting purposes, my question is this: since i'm only taking 2012-2013 courses for the summer session, will i be receiving the full annual amount of financial aid that can be given for this year, or a fraction?

if i've been unclear please point it out to me and i'll try my best clarify/give additional information.

It depends on whether the school considers summer term part of 2012-2013 or 2013-2014. If they consider it part of 2012-2013, you would be eligible for aid … but it depends on the number of credits you are taking (must be at least half time for loans) and whether or not you eligible for Pell (if you are, remember that Pell is pro-rated based on number of credits if you take less than 12 credits). Loans and Pell (if Pell-eligible) are pretty much it for aid in the summer - and not all schools award loans in summer. If summer is part of 2013-2014, taking any aid in summer reduces your eligibility for the fall and winter terms.
