Financial Aid Help

So I have been trying to apply for financial aid lately but I have run into some problems with the tax part, mainly because of my parent’s complicated situation. They are married but my dad lives in China and I live with my mom here. They file taxes separately. My dad is a US citizen and he files foreign tax returns, and my mom files the normal 1040 with me as a dependant. When I try to apply for CSS, it gives me the option to put “married, filed separately” but only for 1040. Is there a way to make it so one of them is 1040 and the other is 2555? Or do I convert my dad’s numbers into US dollars and smush it up with my moms? I need help ASAP because the deadline is Feb 1. Thanks!

The IRS form 2555 is for reporting foreign earned income. It’s meant to be attached to a 1040. If your parents file separately and your dad completes a 2555, that means he also has a 1040.
