Financial Aid - how and where does the money get disbursed?

Can someone tell me how financial aid award gets distributed at UIUC? Assume that the awards is for 100 pct COA with a combination of grants, scholarships , loans and work study monies.

does the money get put into the student's account first, then disbursed from there?

if the student elected to do PCH instead of univ housing, how does the money get to the PCH?

FA folks are on short phone hours now due to the crunch and I have not been able to get through.

In the award letter, there are amounts to

tuition
fees
room and board
books
other expenses

It is clear to me that categories that are fixed and built into UIUC, tuition and fees, would simply be kept , but I wonder how the monies to the other categories would be disbursed.

From The University of Illinois’s Office of Financial Aid

*Disbursement

Financial aid is generally disbursed the week prior to the start of classes. You should come to Illinois with sufficient funds to purchase books, supplies, and any other items necessary to begin the semester, even if you are expecting financial aid or plan to work on campus.

Financial aid is credited to your student account and is applied against University charges. If there are excess financial aid funds after the University charges are paid in full, a refund will be generated that can be used to pay for other costs associated with your education. To expedite the receipt of this refund, you should establish and maintain direct deposit to your personal checking or savings account. *

thanks . that answers it.
