Okay my financial aid package is still pending at my school. On the FASFA website it says my EFC was 0000. So my mother submitted all the verification sheets they were asking for. The tuition at my school for the year is about 4,300, housing with the meal plan is 3, 900.
So will i get enough aid to cover both these costs... i guess i can use my credit card and check to cover my books if i dont have any money left. please help!

You’re likely looking at full Pell, then the Stafford would cover the rest. Call your school’s FA office and ask what the hold up on the award letter is.

This sounds like a per semester, not a per year figure. Or your college is extremely cheap for R&B!

A full Pell grant is $5,350. You may also be eligible for $750 ACG - depending on your high school transcript. You should also be eligible for state aid - did you apply for this as well? Finally, you may be awarded FSEOG and work study, if the school has any of these funds left. As far as loans go, you should receive a subsidized Stafford (up to $3,500) and unsubsidized Stafford (up to $2,000). You might also be offered a subsidized Perkins loans. Always take the subsidized before the unsub, if you don’t need all the loans you’re offered.

how do you apply for state grants? i thought that was apart of fasfa? and the housing is about 7,000 a year and tuition is about 4, 500. and yes tuition is cheap because its not a well known university.

Your aid office may be behind in processing verifications. How do they communicate with you if they need additional info? Do they send you an email or put something on a financial aid webpage for you? Have you checked??? I often find students neglect to monitor their email and/or ignore my requests for additional info that I find I need when verifying. I cannot complete their files. If you have been checking your financial aid info and your school email account & haven’t been asked for anything, they are probably just behind. It doesn’t hurt to call and ask, though. Sometimes things fall through the cracks.

Yeah they have a website where you check everything and I called today and she said it takes 4 to 6 weeks to process, they already asked for the verification worksheets. Do you think since my EFC is 0 I will have enough for tuition, and housing/meal plan, and maybe a little left over???

See post 3 - if you’re verified at 0 EFC, you will definitely receive Pell grants and Stafford loans. These two total $10,850 per year, or $5,425 per semester, if that’s all the aid you’re awarded. I don’t understand why you have no financial aid award info from this school at all. All of my D’s schools sent the award info, then the verification requests. Did they give you an estimated aid letter at any time?

FAFSA = Free Application for FEDERAL Student Aid

There’s a link provided at the end of the online FAFSA filing to your state Dept. of Ed, which does use FAFSA data. But there are usually other application requirements and deadlines. Have you heard from your state on grants yet? If you didn’t take the time to finalize the app with them, it may be too late to get state aid for next year. Here’s a link to a list of state agencies:

So, you could potentially be hearing from them in mid-August? Wow, that’s really late if you’re starting school in the fall. Do you know if they are a FFEL or a direct lender for Stafford? If not, you’ll also have to find a Stafford lender - your school may have a preferred list, but you’re free to choose any lender you like. Ask the school if you need to complete your Stafford entrance counseling and MPN now as it does take time to process this as well.

I think my school does the Stafford Loans through Direct Loans! Its because I was officially accepted on June 30th, and she said it takes 4 to 6 weeks from that date. I’m stressed! We move on campus on Aug. 13 and classes start the following Monday. I can not afford to pay everything in advance and get it back later.
