just checked my financial aid status for ohio state and it is online now just so everyone knows! received over $23000 in scholarships, grants, and loans!!!

Wow. I love OSU’s financial aid! I just got another chemical engineering scholarship today. That makes 4 scholarships totaling 13,000!

i filled out the special app for scholarships or whatever…how do i find out if i won any of them?

hmmm…son’s award page is still empty. Not even the scholarship offerings are listed. Only change is on the to do page where there is some information on Stanford loans.

it may have to do with when you turned in your app fee or fafsa…im not sure, i filled out the special scholarship app as well and on the award page it said i received the stadium scholarship

Wt.F? It says cost of attendance is $26,847??? In state? I am so confused.

well that’s including tuition (about 9,000), room and board (about 10,000), books, fees, and other person expenses that you might have to pay. I’m sure that they have a financial breakdown somewhere on their site where you can view what the 26,000 estimate includes.

I’m pretty sure 26000 is a bit of an exaggeration. I have a friend who is attending that said that everything comes out to be about 21000 for him a year.

It was not an exaggeration on my part. I expected it to be ~21k and it apparently is 26+some change. Osu seems to try to attract the top students from other states MUCH more than ohio. Why would they expect me to pick OSU over a top LAC or a top 10 engineering school for a similar price?

Physicsdude, I did not mean that you were exaggerating.I realize that you got the value of 26000 from the osu website, as did I. I am simply saying that I believe tOSU is exaggerating when they are saying that it costs 26k to attend. As I mentioned, current students say they pay about 21k.

LOL.
I’m out of state and mine says estimated cost of attendance is $42975…

I’ve already decided on Grinnell, but I checked my FA from OSU anyway. I got total crap from OSU. Pell Grant, 3k in Grants from OSU, 2k in Work Study, $5,000 in loans, and a gap of over $10,000 between the offer and COA that I would’ve had to take out in private loans. At that kind of cost, I would’ve never attended anyway.

my financial aid page says “no financial aid available” or something…

My housing stuff came to my email on friday! my roommate and i did it asap haha and had it in by like 4 on friday. :p

to make this relevant to the thread: i got no fa i wasn’t expecting. just my $11,100 in scholarships and a $5,500 unsub loan. i’m still happy.

what’s the special app for scholarships?

never mind! I found it, the priority date was Feb 15th though did you guys submit it recently?

I still have nothing on my FA page…

Son just received FA package yesterday. We were selected for an audit and had to submit additional paperwork for verification.

Estimated Cost of Attendance Expected Family Contribution Financial Aid Need

What do these three numbers mean?

Estimated Cost includes tuition, r&b, mandatory fees, and estimated expenses including books, travel and person expenses.

EFC is the number that FAFSA says your family (including you) is expected to contribute to the cost of your college education. This does include those estimated expenses.

Your Financial Need is the difference between the above. Some schools pledge to meet the difference 100%. That 100% can include scholarships, grants, loans (for you and/or your parents) and work study.
