financial aid.. is this really how it works?

i've received a really great financial aid package from the college that i will be attending... however, i just realized that the financial aid they gave me doesn't include dining or health insurance... i don't mean to be rude, i'm just completely unaware... does everyone else have to pay for those two at other colleges too? and even if they received financial aid?

Yes you must have health insurance in the event that you get sick or have an accident. If you are carried on your parents health insurance, your school will most likley ask you for proof of insurance and the school has a minimum requirement for what your health insurance policy should cover. IF your parents insuracne meets the school's requirement the health insurance fee from the school will be waived.

Your school may also charge you a student health fee, the cost of going to the student health center for medical needs that are not serious, scraped knee, cold, etc. Some schools charge students for this fee, others do not. If your school charges for it, then you must pay.

finaid covers mine...

Other than the amounts that the federal and state government kicks in at given threshhold income/asset levels, there is absolutely no entitement issue regarding financial aid. A school does not have to meet the difference between COA and EFC,and it can have any rules it wants in calculating its own COA and its own EFC leaving out and including whatever it danged well pleases. They do not even have to be consistent from one student to another in the same class.
