Financial aid notification

When does UT financial aid office generally send out notification about financial aid? I checked the BAL site and it just says processing check back in two weeks. The two weeks has come and gone. My FAFSA was completed 01/01/11.No financial aid yet.

UT generally posts award notifications in mid-late March for incoming students. Returning students are usually awarded a week or so later. Scholarship notifications are often later (after spring grades are final).

However, the Texas Legislature is considering major changes to state financial aid, so UT will probably only award federal aid initially.

Another possible snag is that congress is considering changes to the Pell grant. It will have the greatest effect on (Pell-eligible) students who attend summer school though.

Wait wait wait, what?? Scholarship notifications come after spring grades are FINAL? As in, during May? How am I supposed to choose what college to attend if I don’t know how much I’m going to have to pay for UT?!

@michael

Those are for RETURNING students. So students already attending UT (i.e. freshman - junior)…

Scholarships from UT for incoming students are usually awarded earlier-the large ones (that might make a real difference in your out of pocket expenses) are all part of another program-Honors, Dean’s Scholars, Longhorn Scholars, etc. If you haven’t been accepted into one of the special programs, you probably won’t get a large scholarship from UT. Terry Foundation nominees were notified my S’s 1st year in March, but final selections were in April.

Scholarships for continuing students are generally awarded after spring grades are final.

Scholarships from other donors, like the TexasExes, can be later for all students. My S was notified about a TexasExes scholarship in June before his 1st year.

If you are a Texas resident, be aware that some schools are tentatively offering state-based aid (TEXAS Grant, Top 10% Scholarship, etc.), and others are waiting until state funding is set in June.

Hahahahahahahahaha man I feel so stupid. I read through that really quickly and was so flabbergasted I had to hurriedly post a response.

Hey I decided to peruse the BAL site and check my Financial aid status on CASH. I wasn’t expecting anything. So I clicked the what I need to complete link. I completed the form( a simple check in the box that I was not related to a board member or regent. After submitting I clicked the my history-financial aid and here is what appeared:

This appears to be off to a good start IMO. I know there is more to come.I’m an incoming instate freshman.

Incoming in-state freshman, I have the President’s Achievement Scholarship Tier 1 too, according to the Financial Aid History page. It’s a nice surprise, since UT hasn’t been sending me any financial aid info except for Engineering Honors. At this rate, it looks like I might be able to go through college without paying a dime :D

Nice congrats. Yeah im sure youll get more. They actual offers will prob happen mid to late march

have ALL the President’s Achievement scholarships been doled out? or will they award more later?

D got an award letter today for PAS but her BAL is not updated with the info…just FYI

Got presidents achievement too today. 5k/year.

Congrats to all recipients.
