Anyone receive their financial package yet? I’m not sure what to think. Have great stats, have financial need but Rensselaer wasn’t very generous with aid (small scholarship + small grant) as in other schools accepted to. Can this be adjusted with more generous financial aid packages from other schools? Thank you.
It doesn’t hurt to try, very politely, to contact the financial aid office, with any offers from PEER or higher schools. If your other offers are from “lesser” schools, they likely won’t influence the decision. If you have an offer from CMU with more money, they may adjust. I would only try this IF RPI is really your first choice, if they will meet another offer.
Good luck. RPI is a great school.
My son got Rensselaer Leadership Award $19, 000 per year. But when we run RPI Net Price Calculator, it says the Estimated Rensselaer Grants/Scholarship would be $29,400. Just wondering why there is such huge difference. Is it normal?
We saw FA letter online and thought it includes both merit based and need based aid because it offers additional $8500 loans but no grants. Thanks @Kat2013@luckybaer
@Sean67208 Yes, also have the Leadership Award plus an additional Rensselaer grant of $9000. Loans ($8500) are in the package. Total family cost is too much for a low EFC. I’m assuming all aid that is available to us is shown online. Net price calculator expected $30,000 in grants (which I know can change). Very disappointed, as this was a top pick school. Now considering another school that gave full tuition.
Yeah I got $10,000 with everything included. For the federal Perkins loan, should I write my name or my parent’s name since my parent wants to pay for the loan.
I know people who got their financial aid packages a week ago with acceptance but I’m still waiting on mine. Hope they come out today or tomorrow. This is torture
I am so confused about the loans and grant I got. Since my total was about $11,000, I don’t have to worry about that until I graduate from Rutgers right? What about the rest of the money since tuition is about $15,000?? I know that the loans I received from my FAFSA I have to repay them after I graduate.
You don’t pay for grants. Yes, you pay loans after you finish college (not necessarily graduating), but you have pay them with interest. Longer you wait, the more interest will increase.
We were so excited to get the large white envelope from RPI in the mail Saturday to finally see his financial aid, only to see it was his acceptance letter from March 12th haha
