What did you guys receive for financial aid?

Many people seem to have posted good results for financial aid. My EFC on Fafsa is 3000 but RPI is expecting my family to pay around 14K. I applied to RPI late (they extended the deadline) can that be seem as a lack of interest and is why I received such low financial aid? I can't afford to go(I really liked RPI :( Can some of you post your stat and what you received for financial aid? Thanks!

Also, Syracuse arch gave me 38K and expects me to pay 4K which seems to more accurately reflect my family’s financial situation. How do I craftily ask RPI to give me more money? Have anyone convinced a school to give them 20K more than what was decided(should I even try)?

Princeton Review has a book called “How to pay for college without going broke” that outlines word for word how to ask and what to do to when you want to renegotiate a financial aid package. This is done quite a lot (it seems) and is certainly something to think about. When I went to admitted student’s day at my #1 the financial aide seminar even discussed the issue and have a form to fill out in the event you ask for a renegotiation. If I were in your shoes, I would absolutely try.

Just received FA letter today.

DS received the 2024 Bicentennial Award plus a few loans.

Now Rochester and Rensselaer equal our instate option, UCSC.

This getting harder and harder!

My DS is thrilled with all of the attention.

It also seems the longer you wait to accept, the more sweeteners arrive? Is this just my imagination but I certainly would not say yes too quickly.

If you are looking to get additional merit money, I think letting them know how interested you are earlier is actually better. I don’t think you will get offered more by waiting longer.
If you have other better offers, and you are REALLY interested in going to RPI if they offer something similar, you let them know what the other school offered and see if they will match it.
Good luck

Thanks for the advice. For people who are having trouble with financial aid as well, a RPI student just called me. She told me when she asked for more money, not only did she received more but also got a free laptop :)
