Financial Aid Packages and Music Scholarships

Just curious if music scholarships typically show up on the initial financial aid award letter or if you are notified of those separately from the School of Music from whichever school. I realize it can vary greatly from school to school, so just wondering what people’s experiences were last year?

It was a mixed bag for my D for undergrad and grad. I know at the end - meaning late March - we had the official letter from the school outlining all scholarships and “aid” (loans possible). But earlier she was offered scholarships from the music dept in some cases that were part of the financial aid letter later. Scholarships were offered at different times too. It seems each school has its own system. If you have a school or two you are wondering about you can always call and ask.

^^ same experience

Also sometimes someone in the music department or school will make it known that if it makes a difference, they will advocate for a little more money from the university.

And sometimes offers can change as the school tries to deal with balancing their various instruments and groups. My son went from being wait-listed, to getting an offer with scholarship, to having that specific scholarship increase multiple times before he finally made his decision. And in one case we were able to ask for more money and the school increased my son’s amount by a tiny bit (every bit helps).
