Is anyone here willing to take financial aid with me? I really really like UChicago, but I got exactly 0 dollars from them while both Georgetown and Northwestern gave me $18,000.

I live in San Francisco, one of the most expensive areas of the country, with separated (but both custodial) parents. One parent makes about $115k with nothing in property or savings, the other makes about 20k but has 150k of equity in the house. Does anyone have a comparable situation (or any situation at all they could post)? I'm just trying to figure out if Chicago was stingy to everyone, or if I just got gypped...

UC seems to be stingy with their money. For example, I was offered 20k by UC but 32k by NU in grants…

For us too UChicago was the most stingy (and most expensive) school, also by thousands. At this rate, UChicago is going to lose the good rep it had been gaining recently. They have a nice endowment. I don’t get it.

Not every school uses the same measures and standards for financial aid. Of course you’re going to find some people who got less money from school x than from school y. This is certainly not the case for everyone. (It was not the case for me, and a number of people I know here.)

Daughter offered approx. 5k more by UChi than NU.

Though Chicago, Northwestern, and UIUC all gave me the same out-of-pocket cost, UIUC and Northwestern both required me to take out a substantial amount of loans (the latter more than the former), while Chicago won’t put me in any debt this year.
