Financial Aid Packages

Has anyone gotten their financial aid packages yet? Somebody said that the finaid for EA acceptees was coming out with the RD acceptances, so have any EA'ers gotten their packages? How do they look compared to other packages you've gotten?

Hoping to get mine today. Seriously, this will determine the next four years of my life!

I was accepted EA and I just got my financial aid package today (I live in NYC). This was the first package I've gotten so far so I'm not sure how it compares but it looks pretty good to me despite what people have said about Gtown's fin aid package and the amount of loans they give out... :)

Errr, so that means that I won't get my financial package until Monday because I live in California huh?

But I did get my EA acceptance letter the same time those in Michigan did.

I got my package today, and I'm very happy with it. They gave me double what BC gave me, and almost as much as what BU gave me with their half-tuition scholarship. They also lowered my EFC 3,000 from what the FAFSA said.

So I've pretty much decided on Georgetown.

Eiffel- you should get yours today, since I got mine (California).

One problem, though-

They said that I'm ineligible for financial aid!!! This totally sucks. I really needed at least some money, so now I either need to get some kind of loans (which I really don't want), or I have to get a job or something else that would distract me from school.

Oh well. I hope some other school gives me some money. :(

Thank God somebody lives in California. Thanks Calidan.

How are you ineligible for financial aid?
Did you mess up on the FAFSA maybe?
Call them up and ask why.

I'm going to. And I don't think I messed up on the FAFSA- we did have to estimate some responses, but only because we didn't completely finish our taxes (which they say is okay!). That shouldn't have made me ineligible.

Yeah definitely.

When I did file my FAFSA, my citizenship status was highlighted (that was a headache). I had to bring my US passport ot Social Security and let them know that I am a citizen, then fax over my passport to Georgetown.

Georgetown finaid is not bad. My EFC rose higher (they're taking my entire savings account, about $1500) and they added a $1000 to my parent's EFC. However, I didn't get a lot in loans; about $2600 with interest subsidized (Stafford). And I did get work study for $3000 and a GU Scholarship for about $18000.

All in all, not bad...still have to wait for Stanford though...

I got mine, and my parents aren't too happy about their contribution. They're making me give more from savings than I actually have and I'll be working insane hours to pay of the work-study stuff, but only $2600 in subsidizied loans, whcih is awesome complared to my other packages.

Yea mine wasn't too good and my EFC was definitely over what we can pay. Guess they don't want me that bad... I kinda think I would have rather just been rejected early instead of having my first choice dangled in front of me only to get taken away

I can't say I'm really pleased with mine. My dad and I are looking at about $20K left to pay, even though he's a noncustodial parent. I even qualify for a Pell Grant through my mom, but I only got $11K in scholarship $.

As some of you know, I got a full ride to Michigan (tuition, housing), and it's looking pretty hard to turn down right now.

I just am having hard time justifying spending $80,000 extra on 4 years of undergrad.

Do you all think it's still worth it to become a Hoya?

Netshark: Go where the money is; a full ride at Michigan (UMich, Ann Arbor, right?) Are you insane to turn that down? You can do graduate work at Georgetown.

yeah, I love gtown more than any school out there, but michigan is a great school and if you do well there you'll be in a great position when you're applying to grad schools (if you decide to do so)...take the money

netshark...i am in the exactsame boat...i got a fullride to umbc and still pending but most likely collegepark...i got absolutely no aid from georgetown....now im caught in a dillemma...dream vs. money :/

Just got mine today, and WOW everything they said about G-town's generosity was WRONG. I got a 26,000 GU Scholarship, so I am quite happy, I got in EA. I think this is mainly because I have a twin sister going to another four year college. The letter had an ominous postscript: This award is based on two children in college. Anyway, I think this is great, and we'll see about the others.

Netshark, I don't know man, poli sci at michigan is no slouch. I think you should visit both campuses, but ultimately, you cannot turn down a free ride at a great college, its just stupid.

brenner- the scholarship could very well be for having a sibling at another four year institution, but I have an older brother (by 2 years) who is going to a four year college, and both my twin and I are about to start 4 year colleges... so that's a total of 3 kids at 4 year colleges, and I got nothing in terms of financial aid.

I really don't understand it. Maybe I filled out some of the forms wrong. My mom is calling then this week, so we'll see... :o

Hey I got a third letter (along with fin aid and acceptance) that accepted me into the Community Scholars Program. They say that I get an additional annual scholarship of $1500. Did any of you guys get this third letter?

I got no FA money, but money is not that big of an issue for me to stop me from going to school where I want to. Would have been nice to get a little, oh well.
