Financial Aid Packets

If we were selected for verification will we not be able to see our financial aid until we turn in all of the needed forms? Thanks!

@lotech‌ , After you log in, click ‘check my application’ in the top right hand corner. Then click ‘self service’ under the menu header. Then under the campus finances header click ‘View financial aid’. The next page says to click the year, and 2016 should be enabled to click, and your package should show up, as it did for me this morning. However, it appears to not be functioning at this time. Maybe try again tomorrow, good luck.

Marylandfour - I have had the same experience as you. Hopefully, they will get things straightened out soon.

Thanks @Marylandfour – Followed your instructions but link is not yet clickable. Will try again tomorrow. I appreciate the walk-through!

My son received his FA by email this morning.

Came out last night in email

How does the cost analysis form work? @hailtopitt1787‌

@samj1197, cost analysis is a way for you to compare the cost of attending Pitt with the scholarships you have been offered vs. another school that has offered you a competitive scholarship. You can submit a form comparing what Pitt has offered vs. what other schools have offered and what the total cost of attendance will look like for you at each school once the scholarships have been applied. If you are interested in learning more, send me a direct message and I can explain the process a bit further.

Missing the scholarship deadline really hurt. My S will not be attending Pitt due to the lack of financial aid. (:expressionless:

@HPAlpha i totally understand. If you would have told me my S was going anywhere other than Pitt 6 months ago i would have been shocked. My S applied very early, not long after he completed the 4-week health science program (former Governor’s school) at Pitt in the summer. But alas, acceptance into biology major but NO scholarship/grant of any sort. Ohio State here he comes with generous merit scholarship and scholars program! I guess you just can’t really know how decisions are made but in the end, the kids will be happy wherever they land! They are all good schools.

@hailtopitt1787‌
I did submit the FAFSA but did not qualify for any aid. Does that mean Pitt will not be offering any need-based aid since I didn’t qualify for any through the FAFSA?

@chelsey123, I am not 100% sure, I specialize more on the admissions side of things rather than the Financial Aid side and I do not want to give you any wrong information. I would encourage you to contact the Office of Financial Aid if you have any questions about aid: 412-624-7488 or finaid@pitt.edu.

Pitt is my #1 Choice. I can not afford Pitt with the financial aid. Is there any way to somehow get more aid. I am feeling incredibly discouraged.

@treesr4huging‌, You can search for external scholarships through sites like fastweb.com and https://bigfuture.collegeboard.org/scholarship-search.

Best of luck!

Ask your guidance counselor at your high school for local scholarship applications.

Just received sons financial aid package in mail today. We are from New York. He had been awarded $10k scholarship a few months ago, but as part of financial aid package he has now been offered an additional $8k “Panther Pride Award” - Is anybody familiar with this? I haven’t seen anything anywhere about this award. These plus combo of work study and subsidized loan certainly make Pitt attractive, though at this point he is leaning toward a decision between Northeastern and URochester.

My son is leaning toward Pitt and has a very similar situation. He is getting a $7,000 Panther Pride Award as well, and we’ve been trying to find it if it’s Pitt’s intent to award that $7,000 each year after, or just the first year? For Pitt’s Bradford campus, they say it is (and for a different amount) but I see nothing on the main http://oafa.pitt.edu site about this award. Here’s Bradford Campus’ mention of the scholarship being four years https://www.upb.pitt.edu/templates/AdmissionsBlank.aspx?menu_id=1265&id=5012. Any ideas?

I thought the Panther Pride Award was a need-based grant, not a scholarship…does anyone know for sure??

@adkdad that’s What I think it is. It came as part of the financial aid package. The scholarship was awarded months ago. I had never heard of it before but I think that’s what it is. Must be a Pitt financial aid grant.

I e-mailed the Pit OAFA, but they never replied…so I emailed them again…hopefully I will get an official answer soon.
