Financial Aid Question HELP PLEASE

Ok so i just went onto Yale's financial aid website and they said that the deadline for Financial Aid application materials was Nov 1st. I had NO CLUE about this deadline until today (Nov 2nd) so does that mean I will be ineligible for FA or can I still send in my materials now? What is this Nov 1st Deadline for??

I'm kinda freaking out right now so please help :S

If you applied SCEA, and get accepted, you will get your financial aid offer with your admissions offer. They need the information to prepare your award. Get it in ASAP. I don’t know if they accept it late or not.

You are okay, even if SCEA. That said, maybe you should have gone on Yale’s financial aid sooner if you have applied SCEA. If you’re applying RD, you’re well in time.

Two years ago we did not submit all the FA material by Nov 1. My kid was admitted SCEA but we had to wait a few more weeks for the financial aid award. I don’t think it has any bearing on admission and I don’t think Yale runs out of financial aid money. It just took away a bit of the acceptance joy since we had to see if the financial aid award would be enough - which it was.

If I don’t immediately submit my financial aid materials, will my chances of receiving aid be hurt if I am accepted SCEA?

No, see my post but you might as well submit whatever you have ready or can complete now.

When Yale says “strongly recommend submitting these documents by November 1,” I would take them at their word. I don’t think a day or two will matter, but why wouldn’t you be expected to submit promptly?

@keesh17‌, thank you for the response – I wasn’t able to see it before posting.

@IxnayBob‌, my family and I are trying to figure out an extenuating financial circumstance regarding a trust from my grandfather, and thus, have been unable to properly complete the necessary financial aid materials. I plan on heeding your advice and I’m hoping we will get everything in soon.

@ViridisFloe‌ , I have never filled out those forms so I’m talking through my hat, but there should be some way to fill in what you can and indicate that trust-related issues can only be provided at a later date. Good luck.

I’m dealing with the same problem. I will only apply for financial aid if I’m admitted due to our financial figures being very complicated. I don’t want to put an unnecessary burden on my parents.

Waiting until admission is not a problem, it seems, as far as Yale is concerned. I would email or call the financial aid office as soon as you have been admitted to let them know what is going on. I have found the Yale financial aid people to be very responsive, friendly and supportive.

Also, I would advise you to not leave anything unspoken with your parents though. If you (the student) will be responsible for all the steps for financial aid you need to let your parents know that you will need complete access to their information. Alternatively, you can complete the student portion and they can be responsible for submitting their info.

Just so everyone knows, according to multiple sources, Yale has no problem with SCEA applicants applying for FA with the RD applicants. The only reason they ask you to hand in your FA application on November 1st is if you would like to know what your financial aid package will be exactly with the admission decision in December.

Hope that helps! :)

They will accept it. Just get it in quickly, like now. Yale is not like some other schools where their financial aid money runs out. A few days won’t matter, but don’t push it.

Why post this on College Confidential? No one here knows for a fact—call the office of admissions for questions like these.

Sure, I agree with billy - ask the school themselves. However, I do know the answer to this question since I asked the school. :P

I also know since I went to Yale, my daughter is a freshman now and I do college fairs and answer these questions all the time.
