Financial Aid Question Regarding Mistakes 9 Years Ago

Back in 2003, I just graduated high school & enrolled in a community college. I ended up only attending that college for about 1/2 a semester. I failed 3 classes (because I didn't withdraw in enough time) and have two W's for the ones I did withdraw from. There's no excuse, but I did have some serious family issues and actually just couldn't go to school. I am now 27, in the right state of mind and it's about 9 years later since I originally attended college. I am currently enrolled in another community college. When I went to college in 03, I was on financial aid. I actually received the Pell grant. The question I have now is, will my current school accept my financial aid despite the grades/transcript I had about 9 years ago during my 1/2 semester? I did fill out the FAFSA paperwork online, I was told I am eligible. I am just worried this school I'm enrolled in will decline my financial aid because of mistakes I made almost a decade ago.

I should add, I had spoken to the lady @ the fin. aid office last week, before they received my college transcript from 03. She told me that I MAY be able to write an appeal for it OR it may just be OK and I will be granted aid without an issue. However, she is not entirely sure as she was waiting for the transcript before she could tell me exactly what to do. Is getting accepted for fin. aid after writing an appeal somewhat difficult?

Some schools will deny aid based on past performance at another school, but most will not. Just wait to find out what your school says once they get your info. If you have to write an appeal, you just need to explain what has changed in your life that will allow you to complete your classes this time around.
