I don't know much about financial aid, but say I apply for it and a school offers me a mix of grants and loans. Is it possible to take the grants and not the loans? Or do you need to accept the full package?

Thanks.

You do not have to accept the whole package. You will be asked if you want the loans and you can take certain loans and and not take others if you want. It is up to you. If you get enough grants and scholarships you may not have to take any loans.

You do not have to take the loans. However, that doesn’t mean the school is going to give you larger grants. It will just mean that you and your family will have to pay more up front.

Also, be aware that many schools do not have much money to give, so unless you’re low income, your FA package may not include any grants at all.

A lot depends on what schools you apply to.
