Financial Aid Question

If a parent doesn't submit their copy of their federal tax return to their child's usconnect (or send them in anywhere really) does that mean the student won't recieve any financial aid from USC? The student tax forms, Fafsa (with estimated parental tax), and css profile (with estimated parental tax) are all completed but the parent form is not. Will that completely exclude the student from getting any financial aid through the university?

The student will not receive USC Grants unless all requested form are submitted.

They student may still be eligible for federal aid including Stafford loans, Pell grant (if eligible) and Federal Work/Study* with just the FAFSA submitted, unless the student was selected by the federal government for verification**.

*Work/Study is a federal program administered by each university and the funds are limited, so it is likely USC would not allocate the limited funds to a student who did not submit all materials.

**If the student was selected for verification by the federal government and declines to submit the requested materials, no aid will be offered by the federal government. In any case, at most federal aid (Pell Grant [if eligible] and Stafford loans) add up to $11,000 - that does not go very far in covering the $60,000+ cost of attendance at USC.

In many cases, the USC Grant makes up a large portion for financial aid, If there is any way you can get your parents to submit the tax returns, I urge you to do so unless they are able to pay at least $55,000 out of pocket.

Good luck.
