When I was first deciding where I was going to live, my primary concern was price. So I applied for the cheapest rooms, and I ended up getting a contract for a room in Oban.

I recently found out that my financial aid award was based on the assumption that I would be staying either in the residence halls or in Glen Mor. On GROWL, it says, "Your financial aid award is based on you living in UCR Residence Halls or Glen Mor apartments. If your actual housing status changes, your award may be subject to revision. Please notify the Financial Aid Office as soon as possible if you will not be living in the Residence Halls or Glen Mor."

My question is, should I contact them(I was hoping maybe i'd go unnoticed, which I highly doubt will happen), and if I do, by how much will the award be decreased?

Are you getting the “UCR grant”? If you are then they’ll take the difference from that grant. Im not sure what your financial aid is like but for me I still have to pull out like 11k in loans. Calling to ask is the only sure fire way of knowing.

You are playing with fire. That is fraud. You can lose opportunity to get aid in future. Not worth it.

The COA for on campus is different than the COA for off campus. Your aid is based on the COA.

Max room and board COA for residence halls is 15,000, campus apts are 8,300 and off campus is 8,600.

Total respective COA is then 34,300 or 27,680 or 28,700

So if you got the full 15,000 it would be reduced by 6,700. If you got partial then try to prorate it. Maybe no change, see they said maybe. Mainly you should reply asap so you know how much money you are getting. If you took extra and spent it you wouldn’t be going to college until you paid it back.
