Hey guys. I'm applying to Northeastern regular decision and I missed the December 15 deadline, but I was told yesterday that you had to apply then for merit aid. Im kind of confused.

Did everyone else apply in December? What kind of FA do the January people receive? Im a little worried because I really dont think my family can afford 30 or 40k a year.

Your question really sparked my intrest. I wanted to make sure that I had "applied" for Merit Aid if in fact it needed to be applied for. I called the Financial Aid office at Northeastern and they had told me that you do not have to apply for merit based aid seperatly. Apparently the admissions office awards the merit aid, so if you applied and were accepted you were automaticlly reviewed for merit based aid and, if you were awarded it, it would appear with your federal and state aid on your award letter.

When you say "January" people do you mean people who applied in January for Fall of 2005 admissions or people enrolling in January of 2005?

Sorry about that. I didn't send my application in before December 15. It was a few days after that I'd heard that it was the priority deadline. However, I'm going to apply by January 15 for the fall 2005 deadline.

You're right, the office does give out merit aid, but I didn't know if they give any to those who miss the December 15 application deadline.

Obviously most people who apply are looking for some type of merit aid, so I'm hoping that they do in fact give out financial packages to those applying in January.

Yeah I think you're right. On the application and website, it says December 15 but they sent me a booklet type deal and it says nothing about December 15 on it. Thanks.

You're right about the conflicting information about the priority deadline. I called Admissions last month to get it straight. It took a while until the women I spoke to could track down what she considered the absolute correct informationthat the deadline was, in fact, December 15.

However, she found several instances of the January 1 date on their web site. So if I were you, I would send in your application ASAP and noteboth on the application itself and via a phone call to admissionsthat you may have missed the December 15 deadline only on account of conflicting info on NEU's own site.

From what I've heard, the first wave of acceptances, going to the top applicants only, will be sent around February 1. If last year's pattern holds, merit aid to that group will be distributed about 2-3 weeks later. A second, less select group will receive acceptances in late February or early March, with any grants to those applicants arriving a few weeks later. This last part is just a guess, but all additional acceptances, as well as rejections and deferrals, would probably go in mid- to late March.

You can deduce a lot of the timing for last year's applicants by reading through the Northeastern thread from the previous version of CC:

Do you think I would be considered a "top applicant"? I don't really know where I stand at Northeastern. It's my number 1 so I hope I don't have to wait too long for a decision. (MY stats are at the top of the other NEU page.

By top applicant, I think NEU indicates that the top 10 percent or so will hear by early February. Based on past scores, that would translate to roughly 1350 on the SAT I or 30-31 on the ACT. Obviously, this is an estimate and there are other factorsECs, SAT IIs, class rank, essay, and so on.

Again, you might want to check the thread from last year to get an idea of who heard early, who was accepted, who was offered merit aid, etc. This was a very active board for the Class of 2008, and many applicants posted their credentials and results.

hey sorry kinda off topic, but this is the most active thread so whatever:)
um i completely missed the whole honors program deal...did we have to apply for that seperately or will they automatically place u in it if they feel ur qualified enuff?
