Financial Aid Question

I was accepted with the Pres Scholarship, waiting for Financial Aid. Can anyone who is OOS tell me how much need they met?

Congratulations on your scholarship!

I am waiting as well. I received $18k/year merit scholarship as an OOS. But I have heard UVM does not provide the aid needed to close the gap. It’s my first choice, but I don’t think we can make it work financially. But we are going to wait until the financial aid packages for all the schools come in before I make a decision.

Good luck.

@vonThunen- congratulations! I know that UVM does not guarantee meeting full need. The financial aid packages come out between the middle of February and middle of March. It is worth waiting until then to see the combo of your scholarships and need based aid before making your decision. I wish you well in the process- Go Cats Go!

Of the three OOS schools my son was accepted to, UVM was the most generous and even though the sticker price was the highest, it ended up being several thousand dollars cheaper. Even so, it did not meet full need. He got a merit scholarship, UVM grant and federal loans, but we still had to take a Parent Loan to bridge the gap. Our EFC was very low, so the gap was about $10,000.

Does anyone know what %, if any, financial need might be met for OOS applicants? Are UVM OOS students even offered any need based aid? With the 18K scholarship and likely 5.5K student loans and our 20K from parent income still leaves an approx. 11K-12K gap.

I am not sure what the percentage was but my son did get need based aid. It was a combination of loans, work study and yes a grant in addition to the merit scholarship. It did not meet full need however so we ended up taking out a parent loan to bridge the gap.

According to this website they meet about 70% of need. I think that was about in line with what my son got.

@basil2000 UVM tries to meet as much need based aid as they can which tends to be around 70% for most students. They never grantee to meet 100% need. It is worth a call to the student financial services office 802-656-5700 to discuss your case.
