<p>I think it is just for that year, since you can apply for financial aid the following year.</p>
<p>It is for one year. You have to reapply every year, and it will likely change as the family financial situation changes--more income, less in savings, etc.</p>
<p>Are you sure? When I had a mistake on my app (they put <em>me</em> down as earning 160,000), my EFC read 97,000. no school is 97,000 per year! </p>
<p>that's why i was confused. once we fixed it, it went from 97 to like 25.</p>
<p>The EFC doesn't specifically reflect the cost of any college, its just the amount of money parents are expected to contribute to a student's college costs per year. As others have said, your EFC will change annually, based on the family's financial sitution and the number of children enrolled in college.</p>
<p>The $97K is the amount parents would pay if they had several kids in college. It is for one year and your efc can be much higher than the cost of any college.</p>
