I am hoping to go to community college soon, likely next semester. I filed my FAFSA & got an email saying I am eligible for $5350 in pell grant aid. My question is, is there a minimum number of hours/classes required to receive aid? I am a mother of 4, the youngest is 2 & has cerebral palsy, so I don't have a lot (any!) of spare time, but really want to try. The CC where I applied has night, weekend & online classes, so that will help. Would appreciate any help, I am wanting to work w/ special needs children & their families, hoping to have a degree by the time the baby is in first grade, if at all possible!

I believe you have to be at least part time, possibly full time.

That varies per school I’d imagine?

The full Pell requires full time enrollment. If you go less than full time the amount of pell will be reduced accordingly. Roughly if you go 3/4 enrollment you can only get 3/4 Pell, 1/2 enrollment 1/2 Pell. I think you can get some if you are less than half time but it is greatly reduced.

For Stafford loans you must be at least half time.

You must be enrolled as a degree seeking student for any federal aid. so make sure you check with your school for any requirements they may have.

Good luck.
