Hey guys quick question about financial aid. Does someone whose taking 18 units in one semester get more financial aid for the semester then someone who is taking 12 units? Say both of them have the same income and both of them are full time. Or does it go as a ratio with the more units you take the more money you get which is eventually capped off at your full pell grant?

you only get more money from part time to full time. Anything less than i believe 6-11.5 units gets half total financial aid, 12+ (full-time) all get the same amount. there’s also a max amount of money that you can get per year, which is 5500.

Financial Aid IS proportional to the amount of units you have, but it caps at 12 units. Someone who is taking 6 units gets less money than someone who is taking 12 units, but someone who is taking 20 units gets the same amount of money as someone else who is taking 12 units.

Also, I think $5500 is only the max amount for the Pell Grant. If you get a Cal Grant, or an Academic Competitiveness Grant or something, I think you get more money.

cause I’m taking 16 units between 3 different colleges during spring, but only 8 units at my majority college. So they only award me for 1 college and I know that I would get 1730$ if I add on a 4 unit call to that college that would give me 12 units and jump me from 1760 to 2760? (I get full pell grant).

For Pell you can be full time and get full Pell that your EFC entitles you to. Full time is usually 12 hours or more for a semester system. Then Pell reduces for less than full time - 3/4 Pell for 3/4 time (8-11 hours), 1/2 Pell for 1/2 time (6-8) and 1/4 Pell for less than 1/2 time (<6 hours). But many schools require you to be enrolled at least 1/2 time for aid.

For federal loans you must be enrolled at least half time. They are not automatically reduced for less then 1/2 time, though the COA will be reduced which may affect the amounts.

The ACG will not be available after this year.

how does acg grant work?

I have great College gpa 3.9, but terrible hs gpa. Like a 2.0. Could I get it?
