Hi! I'm going to be freshman at Berkeley this coming fall of 2010. I have some questions about financial aid

1) I checked the registration fee that is due and it stated that my fees were non-resident even though I am supposed to be a resident. Is that normal? Does the status change after awhile?

2) I completed my MPN for Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loans and completed counseling session. Is there anything else I should be filling out?

3) To pay the tuition, do I need to do anything? Almost all of my costs are covered so does the Berkeley office automatically take out the money through CARS/ E-Bill?

4) In MyFinAid, the housing fee is over $17,000 when I am in triple room at Unit 2. It should be around $11,000. Will this change later?

Sorry for the long list of questions.. but thank you so much!

1) Did you remember to fill out your Statement of Legal Residence? You should be listed as a resident by now…this is a huge problem, and I suggest you get on it fast, unless you want to be paying huge fees.

3) From what I got when a counselor explained it to me at CalSO, you would have a positive balance on your CARS from all your financial aid. Once all that runs out, you’d have to go on there and put in your checking account number/other such information and pay the bill.

4) I wouldn’t just assume it will change later–just to be safe, you should probably call and ask once Monday comes around.

Sorry I don’t have any suggestions for #2.

Thank you so much for your replies!

I went on BearFacts and saw that my residence status is PENDING.
Is that normal? Would it change in time?

mine stayed PENDING for quite a while before it changed…but it DID change in the end, which is good. if you’re worried though, you can call the financial office and ask them
