Financial Aid/Scholarships?

I was just accepted! :) so amazed right now, but had a question-
on the student portal, there's a separate letter for "financial aid"
I don't really understand what I was granted...

Under "GRANT, SCHOLARSHIP & FEDERAL PERKINS LOAN ELIGIBILITY" there are some things listed....are these my actual awards for this coming year?

Because further down, it says "estimated college expenses" and lists the $62,925 amount....

I'm kind of confused; can anyone tell me what I was actually granted?

Thanks in advance!

The first block of text refers to the grants they gave you, broken down by quarter and source (merit, need, outside etc). Bottom right corner of that matrix is the total value of the grants they provided you. Next column tells you any loan info, and the final block just lists the COA, which is apparently 62k for the 2012-13 school year. The parent and student contribution are what you will have to pay.

What is a University of Chicago Grant?

that’s what they call their general need-based financial aid.

thanks for clarifying snipersas!

Is the “University Scholar Award” listed under Grant, Schloarship & Fedral Perkins Loan Eligibility section in Financial Aid letter the merit scholarship? As much as i’d like to think so (from the verbiage), I did not get a merit scholarship notification other than this one line in financial aid letter, so is it need based aid?

that is a merit scholarship.

Thanks, Snipersas! Can’t believe it, I definitely did not expect this. Very happy :D
