all dressed up with nowhere to go

that 10k would be sooooo nice.

I sure hope you get in Nagony, I'm rooting for you.

your EFC should be on your SAR report. figure around $45K for USC, subtract your efc, and they will fill that gap with aid (grants, loans, whatever). which means if your family really can't put together the listed EFC (yah, i know, they're not living in the real world)....either you get more non-need based scholarships or loans.
However, you gotta be careful with the scholarships. I have a friend who pursued some off-campus scholarships to help meet the gap, and his school (not USC) just counted that in and reduced their aid to him! Screwed him good. They included it in his assets.

thanks, Guidez. I'll come to your recitals if i do!!!!!!!!!!

They're definitely already doing/finalizing financial aid for non-scholarship acceptances. I got a call today requesting some really specific information (all of which I'm pretty sure was on the CSS, but he said it wasn't, so I'm faxing it tomorrow).

Where can I find my SAR report? Thanks for the info NAgony!

Guidez- when you sent in your Fafsa, they should have sent you a hard copy afterwards. If not, go log in to your Fafsa web account, and on the left side menu, you can "view and print your student aid report". This will give you your efc.

FAFSA never sent me a hard copy! UGH! I hate this whole admission thing, it's so frustrating, and since my parents went through the entire system in Canada, they've been learning this new process with me. It's frustrating and I've made tons of mistakes... :( oh well, my siblings will have an easier time, and thanks NAGony!

your EFC should be on your SAR report. figure around $45K for USC

My package shows $47K for USC. That's almost as much as
$48K that I've heard is the highest in the US, for NYU!
After $8K grant from USC, work study etc. it's going to
b $33K EFC. That's $10K more for USC Marshall than the entire
cost of $23K for UCLA Biz econ!

I'm finding it hard to make a case for me going to USC!

USC does not use the FAFSA EFC. Not only do they supplement the FAFSA with the CSS form, but they have their own unique way of calculating that they term USC-Need. The head of the Financial Aid Dept explained it to us when we went down for the Scholarship Interview a few weeks ago. It did not sound very comforting, especially when he indicated that they look at home-equity (contrary to what i had previously heard). We are just going to wait till the entire Fin Aid package arrives the first week of April, and make our decision at that time.

They just sent me the paper version of my Fin. Aid package.

To current students: do you guys take out Parent Plus Loans, or other private loans?
Would a 15k-20k/yr Parent Plus Loan be too much?

eddiee... thats so weird that you received that already! I got notified about dean's and everything, but i haven't received the rest of my fin. aid package... maybe you just turned in your info earlier than me?

oh... you know what? i just looked on oasis, and they didn't receive my tax return info until 3/16... that's probably why i haven't heard yet. duh : )

They recieved my tax info in February, and my fin. aid package still isn't decided! ARGH!

whatever is higher you can pay. which is the case for most people, they calculate an EFC that is slightly (or not-so-slightly) higher than you can cough up.

Just checked my financial aid award on Oasis. How come my Estimated Cost of Attendance is $ 48,224?

I thought the estimated cost of attending USC was under 45k.
And the $48k estimate I saw was after a $3,ooo loan... hmm.

This estimate did not include any merit awards. So hopefully I'll get a lot more money or I'll be going to a jc.

I don't know what USC is thinking, but I've got 5 siblings, and if I went to USC at that price, my family would be homeless!

he he he Guidez....that trade's still available /jk. Don't worry. COA isn't what you pay. Did it give you your net cost after aid/awards? if not, maybe they haven't done that part yet. hang in there - you were MEANT to go there.

thanks NAgony, I e-mailed the foa for more info... That COA really threw me off. Hopefully someone at the FOA will shed some light... maybe I can beg for more money. Honestly, my parents would never let me go to USC for nearly 50k!

wow, it turns out the COA is what USC thinks I can pay:

"Your USC EFC was determined to be $55,066. The primary reason for this difference in the EFC is the fact that we take into consideration the family home."

This is insane! I hope I get a lot of merit aid!

I agree, that's definitely insane... >_<

What was your FAFSA EFC before USC recalculated it?
