On the Uchicago Financial Aid application, it asks to list if your parents will be sponsoring other siblings' educations in 2010 as well. I have a seven year old brother, so would it be necessary/beneficial to list him? He attends public school.

Thanks!

Also, I have another quick question. I feel sorta stupid, but looking through Chicago’s supplement, they never asked me specifically what Major or undergraduate college I’d like to attend. Are they basing our major choice off of the “Future Plans” section of the common app? Also, does UoC admit students first and THEN have them choose their specific major? Or do they just pick one for you from the 3 you provided on the future plans section?

No you should not list your 7 year old brother who is attending public school.

Can anyone else answer my second question on how UoC assigns majors? >.<

I think you choose your major sometime during your 2nd year.

abcdefg1234 is partially right. You choose your major either second or third year. Don’t worry about it. All the undergrads are enrolled into the same college since we don’t have departmental colleges like Cornell.

Ah, thanks for the answers guys :)

One last question, right before I submit my Financial Aid forms…It says I can “check a box” to be considered for scholarships by UoC, but I can’t seem to find said box. Are they referring to another application?

“To apply, simply indicate “yes” on the scholarships question on the Admission Application.”

:\ I didnt see this option anywhere on the common app either.

It should be on the Common App form actually, from what I remember. Hmm.

Oh, was it the “do you intend to apply for merit-based scholarship” option under Future Plans? The word “intend” made it sound unofficial, so I wasn’t sure if that was it.

Yeah. Merit Scholarships are semi-informal at Chicago. You just check the box and see what happens essentially. What I’ve done to “boost” my chances at receiving one (my family gets no FA) is write a couple supplemental essays that I will submit with my mid-year report. (I recieved this advice from Grace aka UChicagoPSAC).
