Do you think that getting e-mails from the Financial aid office (reminding people to turn in their forms) is related to your admissions decision? I know the FA and the Admissions are supposed to be separate, but I kind of doubt it.

I was just thinking the same thing - if they’re putting together your package, they’re going to care that forms are missing.

but this is total speculation obviously haha

Yeah, it would make sense for the FA office only to process FA info and offer a package to those accepted rather than for everyone (probably 15,000+ people who applied for FA).

Clarification: I don’t think Harvard sends emails to anyone though, even if you are missing forms, at least that’s what people in previous years say. Other colleges do though.

:( So you guys got e-mails? Were you missing stuff or not?

I didn’t get an e-mail. I was just wondering/speculating. I don’t even know if the FA office sends out these emails.

They probably send them out to everyone.

They are completely separate…

Hmm, maybe. Has anyone received any emails from Harvard’s financial aid office? Or from any other schools?

The finaid office can’t have contact with the admission office in accordance to their “need-blind” admission policy.

‘Idio’, Financial Aid and Admissions ARE the same. Where on Earth did you come up with that they are separate?

“Office of Admissions and Financial Aid” - http://www.wiruch.com/fon01/harvard’s%20acceptance%20letter.jpg

The overall department is called the “Office of Admissions and Financial Aid” but there is a sort of Chinese wall between the two in order to honor the “need-blind” policy. Hence, all though they work together, this collaboration only occurs after admission decisions have been finalized.

The admissions committee does not communicate about any prospective admit with the guy over at financial aid before they have made all their decisions.

This is a classic case of “it is stupid to assume that Harvard is anything other than what it says it is, absent any evidence to the contrary.”

Harvard says the two committees don’t mix, so you assume they don’t mix.

I don’t think Harvard has sent any emails of the sort. I received a likely letter, and I am positive I am missing forms due to some extenuating circumstances, but I haven’t received any email about my missing forms. So although they’re likely preparing a package for me and need my forms, they haven’t said anything about it yet. I don’t really think they’re sending any.

On the other hand I received an email about missing forms from Chicago. I must admit, it made me speculate the same thing.
