It is my impression that the vast majority of this board will be applying for financial aid. I would just like to confirm this with a short survey.

Please respond with whether you are applying for financial aid or not and the amount of FA you will need.

I will compile the data and post the findings.

My DD is applying to private day schools and needs at least 75% FA (average tuition $22k). If schools base our FA on SSS’s EFC, we may get as much as 85%.

MSHopeful, how did you find out your SSS EFC? Every time I log on, it tells me that our EFC is “temporarily unavailable” and, even when I called, they could/would provide no information.

Mainer95, as instructed by the customer service (ha!) folks at SSS, I called one of the schools to inquire about the number, which they were able to give me.

Hey Mainer. I log onto the SSS site almost everyday because they keep screwing up the documents I send them. When I logged on 1/13/10 I saw the link to access the Report. Ever since then, it has said it’s unavailable. I am beyond frustrated with SSS. UGH. I guess I just lucked out on the day/time I logged in to be able to access my report. I just hope it doesn’t change (like maybe they messed them all up and are re-doing them which is why they aren’t available???).

I was advised by a school to send in the 2009 W-2’s and 1099s that I have (still waiting on a few 1099s) rather than waiting for the taxes to be done. Benley had mentioned on another thread that it won’t be released to parents until those are in.

Thanks for the info Neato. I just sent my W-2s and 2009 tax return to SSS on Friday. Maybe they are going to change my EFC amount. I guess I’ll find out.

Apparently I was wrong. It looks like they did calculate it based on the 2008 data. They are supposed to post it in your account but because of an “IT problem” it’s “temporarily” unavailable to families but are available to the schools. Sorry for the causing the confusion neato.
