Financial aid to Canadian residents

Hi,

Does someone know the financial aid policy to Canadian students at Stanford?

They said that only the U.S residents can apply to need-blind financial aid, however Canadian citizen is not requested to turn in the financial aid form or the certification of finance in their financial aid website,Applying for Aid : Stanford University. They just request Canadian citizen to turn in tax document like the U.S residents.

It will be greatly appreciated if someone tell their policy to Canadian residents.

Stanford is not need-blind for Canadian residents/citizens. In other words, whether or not you are applying for aid will affect your chance of getting in.

You are right. Stanford just needs Canadian citizens to turn in tax documents like the U.S. residents.

Thank you very much for your kind reply. As there has been no reply, I was looking for their policy at internet and found the following script of 2006;

“The aid plan will be funded by President John Hennessy’s new “Stanford Challenge,” a $4.3 billion capital campaign. International students would be admitted on a “need-blind” basis, just as U.S. and Canadian students already are. Admission decisions, therefore, would not take into account students’ ability to pay.” ( AACRAO Transcript - Stanford to Offer Financial Aid to International Students)

Is this not working now?

The university does not know what the plan will cost or when it will be implemented.

There are currently only a small number of privately funded scholarships available for international students at Stanford, which support only 25 of the 100 international students in each class. International students do not qualify for federal student aid.

Canadian students are not admitted on a "need-blind" basis. The information is inaccurate.

Stanford has a limited amount of financial aid for international students. International students needing assistance must make that indication on the admission application. Aid eligibility will be determined based on family financial circumstances.
