Apparently, it's already need-blind for Canadians. This is news to me...

Under the aid plan, to be funded by President John Hennessy's new "Stanford Challenge" -- a $4.3 billion capital campaign -- international students would be admitted on a "need-blind" basis, just as U.S. and Canadian students already are, meaning admission decisions will not take ability to pay into account.

Stanford is not yet need blind for internationals and I don't think it will be next year either. Stanford just said that this si something that will happen someday-they never specified when. Its probably going to take a few more years...

i'm a bit confused too - it is dated from 2006. as superwizard mentions no definite date for the implementation of the need-blind policy for intls is given in the article. i suppose the policy will get implemented after the completion of the capital campaign but that could take some time.

Weird, this article is 2006, but I read an announcement early this year that they were planning to extend need-blind to just 1-2 other countries, I think Mexico was one of them.

This will be very relieving for many of the upcoming internationals. But then also the students applying to the university will grow in number more than expected and hence the competition will get even tougher.

I attended Ivy + Stanford information session in toronto, and the stanford rep clearly said that stanford is "need-aware" (opposite to need-blind) towards Canadians.

Ok, College Confidential is probably the only place on the net, that you can become unbelievably happy and unbelievably angry during so small amount of time, like in this thread from reading the 1st post until the 6th

"Stanford would join an elite handful of universities -- among them, Duke, Harvard, Yale and Princeton -- that extend need-based financial aid to international students. Even at these schools, what is available often does not match students' needs."

Duke isn't really supporting international students that need financial aid very strongly. Apart from that, it is absolutely unfair that Duke is listed in front of Harvard, Yale and Princeton :( Btw: as it has been pointed out already, that article is from 2006 and so far Stanford is anything but need-blind for international students.
