I'm an international and I just got my acceptance email yesterday(yay!). They said the financial aid offer shall be made by april 1st. I need a LOT of aid unfortunately. But richmond says that it guarantees to meet 100% of demonstrated need for every admitted int'l student. So will I get all the aid that I need?

“Meeting 100% of demonstrated need” is a subjective term that many colleges use. Even though a number of schools may say this, their offers will vary, and the amount of free v. loan money will also vary. You’ll just have to wait and see how it is.

Does Richmond have a loan free policy?

No. If your EFC is 5000 and the school’s tuition is 60K it is HIGHLY unlikely you will get $55K in financial aid.

But Richmond is known for giving quite a good amount of financial aid compared to other colleges so stay hopeful!

I don’t believe Richmond has a loan free policy.

I just got my acceptance letter and financial aid in the mail today. My numbers go a little something like this:

EFC: $6000
National Hispanic Scholar Award: $750/year
Total Grant Funds: $49040
Self Help Funds: $5500
Total Awards: $54540
Total Billed Charges: $53970

I’d say Richmond met my needs and beyond. :)

I disagree with Richmond giving good amounts of aid. My child got very little need-based aid making the difference between the efc and actual cost very large and making attendance here not worth it.

vespair are you an international?

No, I’m a local from Northern Virginia, but I get the impression that financial aid is all over the board. I have a friend whose income bracket was just a few thousand over my family’s, but she got a significantly less appealing aid package. However, I contacted Richmond a few times to update them on my college acceptances. I mentioned that I had already gotten a full ride to W&M and a few other great scholarships, so maybe that could have influenced something, because most of my grant money came from the school and not the VA tuition grant. I was also sent a likely letter, but I heard that has little to do with expected financial aid.
Long story short, in my case, Richmond met 100% of my needs, but it may or may not vary for others. The guarantee for 100% of needs met goes for students here too, so I don’t see why you shouldn’t get a good amount of aid as well. Best of luck to you.
