You must be kidding, Richmond.

I don’t know what your numbers are, but I definitely had the same reaction to my financial aid. I got $5,500 in loans and that’s it. The second I saw that I knew that I wasn’t going to go there, but I am kind of shocked to say the least. But, I just got a $25,000 scholarship to GW soo I’m not too worried.
I’m sorry that your (your son’s/daughter’s) aid didn’t come out too well though :(

What happened Newjerseymom? Details please!

Congrats kb0671 - my daughter only received $10,000 at GW and can’t figure out why since she had very strong stats. collegeforyou11 - she received a $5,500 loan and a $1,750 grant.

WOW! That is awful NJM unless you have an efc of around $45,000 what is U Richmond expecting?

What does U Richmond owe all of you ?? We are paying IN FULL…the arrogance of your posts are truly unbelievable. And…while you are all “jockeying” for a full ride, my daughter keeps appearing on wait lists because there are too many applicants ! How about some sensativity ??

Sailgal33, I think what people are posting about is their shock to the financial aid they’re receiving. University of Richmond guarantees to meet 100% of financial need, but still some people cannot meet this because some of this financial aid comes in the form of loans that are too much for a family to handle.

I would urge you not to bash the other posters for expressing this shock, as undoubtedly others will feel the same when the letters start rolling in. None of them ever posted they deserved a full ride.

The decision to pay for the University of Richmond in full is your own choice; other families simply cannot afford to do this and thus need the financial aid, which as posted, some families are still not getting.

And about your daughter appearing on waitlists, (inspired by your own post), what do those schools owe YOU?

No…actually…it is NOT my choice. I am sick of hearing about what financial packages people seem to think they “deserve”. you are right that it is my choice to have my daughter apply to colleges with high tuition…as YOUR child can apply to schools with lower. We worked extra to save for college, and still have to do MORE. That is where I am coming from. You can not relate…

@sailgal33: So your daughter deserves to go to college more because you are paying full tuition?

The ignorance of some people

Colleges would rather take smart students on financial aid than students who can pay there full tuition. Apparently judging by all your D’s waitlists.

For the sake of other students who will attend UR, I hope your daughter has more dignity and grace than you sailgal33. I also hope she doesn’t read CC since her mother is not setting a good example.

How do you know how smart my daughter is ?? You are something else !

You just said it is not your choice, but then admitted that it was your choice that you let your daughter apply to schools with higher tuition. Could you please clarify what is not your choice?

The University of Richmond guarantees to meet 100%. None of us are saying we deserve to get a full ride, rather we are expressing shock that in fact 100% of our need was not met.

My family had worked hard to save money for my brother and me to attend college and it may still not be enough. The fact that you have to do more has no relation to other people expressing shock that their need wasn’t met. You could have sent your daughter to a school with lower tuition, which you just told me I could have done.

The fact that you think everyone is being insensitive because they have not had their full need met and you are paying full tuition is absurd. You did not have to choose Richmond. Do not blame the volume of students applying for the fact that your daughter was not seen as competitive as other applicants.

Agreed Sailgal! My parents paid full tuition for my sister at Richmond and now for me at Boston College. I have a5.75 GPA and a 32 ACT top 5% in very competitive school. No one gave us a penny!

I got waitlisted at schools that I was more than qualified to attend AND could afford to pay for, because kids who could not afford them apply as well. Then they get accepted and **** and moan about not getting enough money…come on people…who’s zooming who here?

You’all should have planned ahead!!! Private universities are expensive.

If you can’t afford it, don’t sends your kids there. Richmond is really a school for affluent kids and URM (who get full rides and then hate the school because they feel out of place…duh!)

State school not good enough for you?

@Sailgal: I don’t know how smart your daughter is but you just told us she was waitlisted everywhere so I have to assume the worst.

Tribegirl09, pretty sure if you’re waitlisted, you weren’t “more than qualified to attend.” Just because people cannot always afford private universities doesn’t mean they have no right to apply. Funny how you mention people complaining, but here you are making comments about minority citizens and those less fortunate than you. Have a heart.

Hey guys, I can see both sides of the picture, but I don’t think this is the place to take out your frustrations, especially on the other posters. The application/financial aid process is a crapshoot. I’m sorry for those of you who didn’t receive the outcomes you expected. I understand that it helps to have someone to blame, but try not to take it out on the other applicants/parents when your frustration is really directed at the admission and financial aid offices.

Really??? If you can’t afford dinner at the 21 Club, do have the right to eat there and then negotiate to just pay only a portion of the check?

If you can’t afford to stay at the Plaza Hotel do you have the right to book a suite and then ask to pay for just the closet?

I don’t think so. I don’t think your right extends to having things you can’t afford…just saying?

"Richmond is really a school for affluent kids and URM "

I’m white so that must mean I finally became affluent! Woo hoo!!

Oh BOO HOO Tribegirl09 that you didn’t get accepted to colleges that you could afford when others who were more deserving of admission got accepted but couldn’t afford it.

Each person has a right to be educated; your argument is COMPLETELY illogical because those situations do NOT relate in ANY FORM to what the situation is here. Just because those applicants are not as fortunate as you to be able to pay for college doesn’t mean they don’t deserve their own shot and can’t apply to those schools. If the system was your way, where the rich get into private schools just because they can afford it, then tons of hardworking students would be stuck at colleges that do not suit their academic needs or aren’t on their academic level.

Well. if the plaza hotel offers special rates for people who cant afford to pay full price then yes . Richmond and other schools offer lower tuition to people who cant afford the full price , this is reality . I just received my fed ex package with an amazing aid package . (although i received a likely letter so I wasnt surprised ) WINNING , DUH I must have tiger blood !!!
